Community Champions are passionate ambassadors of our cause and leaders in our community. They strive to raise funds in support of the MLSE Foundation, and help change kids lives through the spirit and the power of sport.

Last year, our Community Champions fundraised over $73,000 (net) in support of the MLSE Foundation through a variety of creative fundraisers.

“In 2011, I was assigned a project called the Youth Philanthropy Initiative to study a local charity with a partner. We researched many charities online and after some debate, we decided that the most interesting and, in our opinion, most outstanding was the MLSE Foundation. The Foundation immediately hit home because they used sports to empower youth. As athletes, we both understood the impact that sports can have for confidence, health, and leadership qualities. What made the MLSE Foundation even more appealing was their dedication to providing excellent opportunities for kids. The Foundation selects disadvantaged neighbourhoods in need of a facility refurbishment. The Foundation then revitalizes a rink, pitch, or court to a professional standard. I had the privilege of experiencing the launch of the Sunnydale Acres Rink in Rexdale. I can honestly say that it was one of the most incredible days of my life. The community response to the newly refurbished rink was terrific! The MLSE Foundation created an inviting atmosphere that would attract kids and give them a place to play, but also keep them out of trouble and help them learn valuable life skills that they will keep forever. Thank you MLSE Foundation!”

“Throughout my life the one constant that has kept me grounded, focused and determined is sports. Sports have provided me with an outlet to dream and achieve. After suffering some recent injuries and illnesses it proved more than ever how much sport meant to me, it gave me an opportunity to make life better for myself and others. I am proud to say that through my effort, early mornings, challenges and hard work I can make a positive impact and give kids of all abilities more access to sports. I believe the MLSE Foundation is focused on making positive change in our community through the spirit and the power of sport. They provide kids with an opportunity to develop essential life skills, allow them to dream, play and grow! I have seen firsthand the positive impact my fundraising efforts have made within the community and I will continue to push my limits to assist the MLSE Foundation and give kids the opportunity they all deserve, regardless of their circumstances in life.”
