How We Teamed Up
The Team Up Foundation provided funds to support Think First’s ‘Recipe for Community Project’. In the fall of 2010 ThinkFirst was invited by the Toronto Community Foundation, in partnership with BICYCLE and the City of Toronto, to take part in the Bike Repair and Maintenance Program as part of the ‘Recipe for Community Project’ for St. James Town. With generous funding from the Team Up Foundation, ThinkFirst was able to provide the St. James Town community with 400 helmets. Each kid had their helmet properly fitted to ensure safer play. We hope to continue to use this grant toward other Give-a-Kid-a-Helmet projects in Toronto.
About the Organization
ThinkFirst Canada works to reduce traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries sustained by children and youth in Canada - through education, advocacy and work with research partners. Founded in 1992 by renowned neurosurgeon, Dr. Charles Tator, ThinkFirst is dedicated to being an injury prevention leader encouraging children, youth and those who care about them to be active and safe. ThinkFirst advocates for proven injury prevention strategies including helmet use. ThinkFirst's injury prevention message is promoted through our programming, schools, community presentations, concussion education and with the help of VIPs (Voices for Injury Prevention), a dedicated group of injury survivors who share the message that prevention is the only cure. Many people may be unaware that injury is the leading cause of death in Canada for children and youth.
