How We Teamed Up
Best Buddies is one of the 5 charitable partners of the Team Up Foundation’s 50/50 raffle program, receiving the proceeds raised at over 20 TFC, Leafs, Raptors, and Marlies games in 2010/2011. The funds raised through 50/50 will assist with their buddy program, and getting them involved in a variety of recreational activities. For a person with an intellectual disability, friendship helps to ease the isolation, disempowerment or loneliness that often deepens the challenges that he or she faces daily. Best Buddies establishes chapters at high schools, universities and colleges across the country. At each chapter students are matched with individuals with intellectual disabilities who share similar interests.
About the Organization
Best Buddies Canada is a national charity that helps to create friendships between people with intellectual disabilities and students at university, college and high school.
The objectives of the program are to help individuals gain valuable life experiences, leadership skills, and above all help establish new friendships. Through the program, high school students with an intellectual disability are given an opportunity to enjoy the same experiences most people take for granted – such as going for coffee, watching a movie or simply enjoying the company of a friend.
