Perogies and Burkie Dogs for Team Up - December 2011
Every year, staff from MLSE's Food & Beverage department take to the fry pans and ovens to cook up perogies and Burkie dogs for Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment staff to enjoy. Thanks to this eager group of employees for putting on these fun (and tasty) lunch time activities in support of the Foundation!
Hoops 4 Hope - November 2011
On November 30th, students from Humber Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning in the Sport Management Program ran a basketball tournament in support of the Team Up Foundation. Spearheaded by Alejandro Valdes Pavez, the group organized a fun day for students and helped the Team Up Foundation by raising over $1,000! Eight teams played in the tournament and were happy to support.
Face-Off Trivia - November 2011
On November 22nd, students from George Brown College's Sport and Event Marketing program took over Grace O'Malley's Pub in downtown Toronto to raise funds for the Team Up Foundation. This group of enthusiastic and hard working students secured sponsorships, sold out their team spots as well as hosted a silent auction and raffle to help with fundraising. Auction, raffle and door prize items were all secured by the students. Whether you were there to enjoy the atmosphere or participated in the trivia contest, all attendees of the fundraiser had a great time. Special thanks to Monica, Adam and Michaela for spearheading the event and for their dedication to raising awareness about the Team Up Foundation. With their group, they were able to raise over $3,600!
Doug Gilmour hosts Fundraiser Event - November 2011
On November 12th, Doug Gilmour hosted an event at Real Sports Bar and Grill in which the MLSE Team Up Foundation received partial procceds. Joining Doug that night were Joe Nieuwendyk and Ed Belfour. It was a great night for guests to be able to join these three former Leafs as they celebrated their induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
TFC 90th Minute - October 2011
The fifth annual 90th Minute party was held on October 22nd at Gossip Restaurant. More than 700 fans packed the venue for a chance to meet their favourite Toronto FC players and coaching staff. Season end team awards were handed out with Torsten Frings winning MVP, Danny Koevermans winning the Golden Boot, Joao Plata winning the Young Player Award, Stefan Frei winning the Humanitarian Award and Ashtone Morgan winning the Academy Player Award. The event included a silent auction featuring many unique and limited edition items. All proceeds from the evening went to benefit the MLSE Team Up Foundation. Garden City 3on3 Tournament - June 2011
At Brock University in St. Catherine’s, Ransom Hawley organized his 3rd Garden City 3on3 Tournament in support of the MLSE Team Up Foundation. Over 150 basketball players came out to play in several divisions in the quest to win great prizes and raise money for the Foundation. Denham Brown from Canada’s National Basketball Team found out about the event and decided to make the trip from Toronto to show his support. Special thanks to Lee Berger and his team – Three Best Friends -- for being the top fundraising team and to Duncan Voaden for personally raising the most in support of the Team Up Foundation. It was a tremendous success and we can’t wait until next year!
Toronto Tourism AGM - May 2011
The Toronto Tourism AGM was held at Air Canada Centre. Hundreds of delegates came together for an afternoon of activities. As a gesture to the host facility and our Foundation, Toronto Tourism donated the registration fees to the MLSE Team Up Foundation. Michael Bartlett, Team Up Foundation Executive Director accepted a cheque on stage from Toronto Tourism’s David Whitaker.
JMH Cup - May 2011
Once again, the JMH Cup chose the MLSE Team Up Foundation and Special Olympics as their charity of choice for their annual hockey tournament. Led by John Harlow and Aaron Zifkin, 4 teams gathered together at MasterCard Centre for Hockey Excellence to play where the pros play. This event raised funds to support the Angela James Arena, which is part of the Foundation’s Legacy Program, and funds to support the Foundation’s charitable partner, Special Olympics.
MLSE Rockstar - May 2011
Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment employees headed to Lee’s Palace for MLSE Rockstar to watch their co-workers perform in support of the MLSE Team Up Foundation. While most crowded together in front of the stage, six employees pushed aside their nerves, picked up a microphone and sang their hearts out. The competition for ‘People’s Choice’ was fierce and raised lots of funds for the Foundation. Special thanks to Pete Morra and the Play to Win band as well as the guest “Rockstars” for putting so much work into this fun annual event.
37th St. Patty's Day + 22 Dodgeball Classic - April 2011
Annually, MLSE staff gather together under the leadership of Lise Gott and Lindsay Carter from the Marketing Department to organize a fun day of extremely competitive and entertaining dodgeball. This year, with the help of departments throughout the company, money was raised in support of the MLSE Team Up Foundation’s legacy program, specifically the Angela James Arena. The Ricoh Suaves ended up defeating the Wu Tang Clan in a heated battle on the adidas Raptors Practice Court. The costumes were creative, the fundraising was impressive and the injuries were minimal. Thanks to the Marketing Department for once again proving that MLSE staff are the best dodgers, duckers, divers, and givers that the sport of dodgeball has ever seen.
Marlies Staff Ticket Challenge - April 2011
Every year, MLSE staff challenge one another to sell Marlies tickets while raising money for the MLSE Team Up Foundation. Staff went to friends, family and supporters to ask them to purchase tickets with a portion of the proceeds coming back to the Team Up Foundation. Once again, the money raised surpassed expectations and everyone who purchased tickets enjoyed watching the Marlies in their playoff push. A win/win for everyone!
Radio Friends Sing for Team Up Foundation! - April 2011
Radio personalities Eric Smith and Jack Armstrong of the Fan590 joined together during the holidays to record a Holiday CD with proceeds going to the MLSE Team Up Foundation. The title of their album was “From Brooklyn to Toronto: Jack Armstrong and Eric Smith Sing the Holiday Classics”. Armstrong was quoted as saying “This album is so bad, it’s good. Eric and I have a passion for music and we thought it would be a fun way to celebrate the holidays and do something for a wonderful cause."
